Textiles 2-Contemporary Practice: Project 2 Digital Printing-Project Work

Example of scanned multi-media artwork with scanned hand printed imagery of flint hammer tool amalgamated through use of Photoshop 4

Use of multi-media artwork as a background with hand printed imagery of stone rose which has been adapted through the Photoshop Toolbox including eraser tool to remove different sections of white on each image.

Continuing experimentation with the scanned multi-media background with scanned hand painted imagery of a stone rose. Ongoing use of the eraser tool and colour replacement tools on PS4 to change the image itself and the colour to green

Ongoing experimentation with imagery shapes, size and colour using the Photoshop Toolbox

An example of experimentation with the PS4 tools of transform and free transform through additional layering effects including 180 rotation with the foreground images of the stone rose and the introduction of background shapes

Added use of layers on PS4 including the multi-media artwork background, hand-painted imagery of the stone rose with the hand-painted images of aspects of the striated stone

Added use of layers on PS4 as noted in the above image but all colours within all layers have been altered using the Photoshop Toolbox including the colour replacement tool, the brush tool and the eyedropper tool

Increased use of layers to add imagery including the use of the multi-media artwork background to the series of hand printed imagery of natural forms including the stone rose, flint hammer tool and the striated stone

Added use of layers on PS4 as noted above but all layers and imagery has encompassed colour changes using Photoshop Toolbox and a range of colour replacement tools

Use of Photoshop Toolbox including distortion and perspective on the multi-media artwork background to move around and transform hand printed imagery on the foregrounds

Use of the Photoshop Toolbox to play with the hand printed imagery, to enlarge, to erase sections to allow underneath layers to be seen

As image above but PS4 transform tools have enabled distortion and warping of the hand printed imagery in the foreground

As image above but further use of the PS4 transform tools have enabled further enlargement and warping of the hand printed imagery in the foreground

Scanned pen and watercolour artwork of the interior of the crystal geode has been overlaid with further artwork including surface design detailing from the crystal geode and stone rose

As scanned image above but use of a different PS4 colour range on each layer and selection of images has transformed the overall image

Through additional use of layers on PS4 more imagery included onto the one overall image. A range of colour changes and alterations have been made to image size, shape and form on a number of different layers

As image above with an alternative PS4 colour range on some of the hand printed imagery in the foreground

A series of images have been added through PS4 including alteration and transformation of some forms

As Image above with a different PS4 colour range throughout the layers

As image above with increasingly transformed and enlarged hand printed images of striated stones in the foreground layer through PS4

PS4 experimentation using colour, transform, eraser tools with adjustment layers

Use of multiple layers on PS4 to highlight layering effects using a different range of imagery. Scanned lino hand printed background with watercolour artwork of the flint hammer tool and line drawings of the same flint tool were included alongside the altered scanned hand printed images of the stone rose in the foreground

As image above with a PS4 colour change on each layer and each individual image

Increased PS4 abstraction-exploration of imagery forms through transformation including use of colour tools to alter colour schemes on each layer

Increased PS4 abstraction-exploration of imagery forms through transformation including use of colour tools to alter colour schemes on each layer

As above...increased experimentation through use of PS4 Tools including transformation tools especially warp and distort and the colour box

Additional abstraction through PS4 transformation to alter the imagery to reflect only 50% of the original series of images

PS4 colour change to alter imagery on each layer

Multiple PS4 colour changes to alter forms and shapes from within the original scanned artwork of the interior of the crystal geode and surface design detailing of several natural forms

Altered scanned artwork of the flint hammer tool including the outline drawings and watercolour sketches through use of PS4 transformation and colour tools

A series of PS4 altered imagery on each layer using the colour tools, brush tools, eraser tools, selection tools and transformation tools

Textiles 2-Contemporary Practice: Project 1 Hand Printing-Project Work

Preparation for hand printing in sketchbook. Initial line drawings of stone rose and crystal geode including surface design

Line drawing of crystal geode including increased detailing of aspects of crystal for hand printing
Experimentation with line drawings including simplification to ease printmaking processes and use on PS4
One of the most successful line drawings of the stone rose with pen & ink. Line drawing scanned and duplicated to practice with layout options
One of the preferred line drawings of the striated stone with pen & ink. Line drawing scanned and duplicated to practice layout options
One of the preferred line drawings of the flint hammer tool. Line drawing scanned and duplicated to practice layout options
Line drawings with pen and pencil of the stone rose which focused upon surface design and markings
Initial experimentation with part sketch of the stone rose and area of surface design...hand printing using collotype process on mount card for textural effect

Initial experimentation from whole sketch of the stone rose...hand printing using collotype process on mount card for textural effect

Initial experimentation from whole sketch of the flint hammer tool...hand printing using collotype process on mount card for textural effect. Hand printing single objects offered greater options for using with a range of other single image prints by hand and on PS4

Another image of the stone rose with surface detailing included to experiment with hand printing using collotype process

Hand printing experimentation continued using line sketches of the striated stone
A series of line drawings using pencil and ink were made in my sketchbook from observations made from the striated stone. Areas of the striated stone were focused upon which offered interesting shapes, lines and designs for hand printing. Hand printing using the collotype process with mount card increased the textural effect

As above...a series of line drawings using pencil and ink were made in my sketch book from observations made from striated stone. Such drawings were copied to mount board and the areas which were not to be printed were cut away.

This experimental print stemmed from line drawings of areas of the stone rose including back and front views in my sketch book. Multiple small pieces of lino were cut into and printed onto paper and card in varying ways to constitute such finished effects. This represented possible backgrounds to single image prints and for use on PS4

This hand print using the collotype process originated from sketches of the interior of the rose stone. The use of mount card with a very thin protective film of varnish over the cut out image allowed the transfer of line and texture to good effect.

As above...this hand print of the interior of the rose stone highlighted the textural and line variations well. Such drawings and prints offered background and foreground variations in PS4 with image manipulation

This hand printed image came from a rough outline sketch of the flint hammer tool from different angles. Lots of experimentation with water-based printing ink helped to create added texture through the collotype process

Selection of line sketches of the crystal geode and the stone rose were hand printed using the collotype process to explore the imagery produced and to generate further imagery for use in PS4

Preliminary line drawings of the stone rose which acted as source material for hand printing

Experimentation with repeat imagery using pencil/pen line drawings of the rose stone and scanning

Experimentation with line derived from drawn imagery of surface detailing from the rose stone and crystal geode

As stated above some preliminary outline sketches of the flint hammer tool to explore single images and grouped imagery in hand printing and through use of PS4

Initial repeat imagery of stone rose through scanning

Further example of use of line from sketches made of surface detailing of the rose stone and the crystal geode. Increased use of abstraction used

Increased experimentation with line, shape and design from the personal archive of natural forms

Increased abstraction and duplication of surface design...line, shape and form for use in hand printing processes

Increased play with scale to add interest to some of the sketches before use in print making processes

Gallery of hand printing using water-based printing inks, the collotype process on mount board and mixed imagery of natural forms to experiment with colour themes, layering and image manipulation. The hand printing processes enabled increased preparation for and use of PS4. Such scanned imagery was also used on PS4 in similar and contrasting ways including the creation of additional layers

A series of multi media backgrounds including acrylic paint, gesso, pen and ink were made with a view to experiment on PS4. Such imagery originated from the surface design of the stone rose, crystal geode and flint hammer tool.

As noted above...additional example of aspects of background imagery for hand printing and use on PS4
Additional experimentation...line drawings of the stone rose with varying backgrounds to be used on PS4
