Developing Creative Textiles-Designing Textiles for a Living Space (Sketchbook No. 1)

Initial pages from my sketchbook-Including photo's of Kingsbarns Beach...Core influence for living space... Therapy Space. Blue, white, black, grey and gold taken from the sky, clouds, sea, beach, rocks and seaweed..
As above...different tonal variations given the change in the sky and quality of light.
Photographs of Kingsbarns Beach with a range of notes and coloured strips or colourways, which have been taken from the beach scenes and layout of the sky, clouds, sea, rocks and seaweed.
Lots of note taking...generated from learning log, ideas from Kingsbarns Beach. Range of blues...from the sky/sea...changing weather...ever changing sky/clouds...shades
The colour of the beach varied as the sky changed...with full light...golden hues...to suit gold coloured shades of jute and linen for floor covering
The beach tones also matched the worn red pine wooden floorboards to add interest to the therapy space and maintain the colour scheme
The therapy space layout combining the opportunity for individual and group therapy
Some source material, of the influence of the sea, sky, clouds, including blue, grey and white
Tapestry weaving colour sample to illustrate the preferred tonal range for the therapy space and an initial plan for the large scale wall hanging
As above...lots of colour strips were completed to help plan the colour scheme and wall hanging
Rock formations-Kingbarns Beach...fabric swatches to match dependent upon the light
Continuing observation of rock formations and fossilised segments with the changing light including machine embroidery samples and knitted sample
Ongoing note-taking including narrowing down tonal range...blue, white, grey and black
Additional source material including more fabric swatches...specific blues sought

Rock undulations explored, line making and mark-making reflected upon, lots of options for interior furnishings
Photo of seaweed with notes and fabric swatches, lots of line drawings included
As above...a range of threads, cottons, wool and silk for textile work
Initial mood boards to illustrate the preferred living space including colour scheme
Additional mood boards for the interior furnishings to compliment/contrast with overall colour scheme of the room

Tonal and colour sketches of Kingsbarns Beach, to act as prep for further textile work

Collage of Kingsbarns Beach...use of different materials to try and find different outcomes... using different approaches to represent the scene

Watercolour and pen studies to act as further prep work for textile practice

Rock formations acted as a key influence for cushions/throws using embroidery, tapestry, machine embroidery, knitting and crochet

As above...endless scope for the generation of ideas using rocks from Kingbarns Beach
Of particular interest was the surface of many rocks including colour, line, texture, shape and form; and how such sketches could be converted into textiles...see three photo's below...

Another series of sketchbook examples from the rock surfaces...

Dynamic lines and colouration studied...and illustrated in the sketchbook from the rock formations
Series of photo's of seaweed, line drawings, tonal and colour sketches...varying scale

More rock with fossils...interesting lines, texture, colour, shapes and form...series of additional sketches included in sketchbook...to explore a range of options...

Enjoyable experience planning out a therapy space with soft furnishings which can aid the therapy process...
