Experimenting with Dyeing Fabric

Sample selection of images to illustrate part of dyeing processes and ongoing experimentation with tie-dyeing to create resist effects
Series of images to illustrate the range of shades achieved with one dye colour and different dyebaths, salt solutions and dye quantities using Dylon Cold Water Reactive Dyes

T-shirts below represent a number of tie-dye techniques including  simple resist bindings to produce single circles
For a number of tops a range of resist techniques were used like the image below... A series of bindings with elastic bands was used to create a variety of pattern coupled with folding techniques with string to offer degrees of contrast
The T-shirts below highlighted the use of batik whereby the wax resisted the dye and the fabric remained white after removal. The two tone T-shirt was dyed a series of colours and overdyed to add depth using folding and clamping techniques

Batches of four...Four coloured dyes used with varying shades...
T-shirt below was overdyed twice then resist dyed using batik technique to add interest
Below...colour combinations with craft cotton for knit and crochet sample work

Preparation for dyeing using elastic bands and plastic clothes pegs
Range of blue coloured dye samples to compare and contrast...shades of blues...

Blue coloured T-Shirt resist dyed with wooden clothes pegs...unique effect achieved
Blue tonal T-Shirt dyed several times to achieve a variety of effects through folding with elastic bands
